Abstract:  An apparatus and method for separating material are described. A material separator may comprise a frame. The frame may comprise a base supporting a slanted grate deck. The base may comprise two upright back supports. The slanted grate deck may comprise: an upper end member coupled to and separating upper portions of the upright back supports; an opposing lower end member; and a plurality of grate members located and coupled between the opposing end members. The space between upper ends of at least two grate members may be less than the space between lower ends of the at least two grate members.
